12th placed Chelsea will hope to end their wretched season on a high at Stamford Bridge when they host Newcastle who could yet move from fourth to third in the Premier League.  After a young team went down 4-1 to Manchester United on Thursday, Chelsea are in danger of more lows. They can at best finish 11th which is not quite what they desired when the season began. That looks a dark reality as the Blues have won only once in their last 11 league matches. Frank Lampard was unable to lift the side that is now desperate for the season to end. The Stamford Bridge faithful won’t have too many hopes though, looking at their recent record. The Pensioners have gone winless across six league matches here, drawing and losing three each.

Newcastle are a team full of confidence, in contrast to their hosts. After achieving Champions League qualification with a 0-0 draw against Leicester, Eddie Howe’s men are looking well set to end on a high. They begin this final game only two points behind third placed Manchester United. A win for the Red Devils over Fulham will see them finish third. However, if United draw or lose, a win at Chelsea will see Newcastle finish third. They have lost only two matches across their last 13 league matches, winning nine and drawing two. The Magpies still remain one of the best defensive units with only 32 goals conceded so far. Their away form has been impressive too with only one loss across their last six away league matches. This sequence has seen Newcastle win four and drawn one, so the confidence would be high to end the season with another win.
