Can Team Europe regain the Laver Cup? They face Team World over three days at the O2 in London after losing last year in the USA. The first match sees Europe's Casper Ruud face late-replacement Francisco Cerundolo. Ruud has never beaten his opponent on this surface and our prediction is Cerundolo will get the win.
Casper Ruud was 17th in the latest rankings and that is five places above his opponent.
He trails Cerundolo 5-4 in previous meetings and has lost both of their matches that were played on an indoor hard court, the surface being used for this tournament. Those matches were played in Paris in 2023 and in the 2024 Laver Cup with Cerundolo winning in straight sets. Since then they've met once with Ruud winning on clay in 2025.
Ruud isn't in the best of form at present with three of his last four ATP Tour matches being lost.
Last week saw him get two wins in the Davis Cup over low-ranked Chinese players.
Francisco Cerundolo has been in better form of late. He had a good win over Taylor Fritz in the US Open, before losing to Alexander Blockx in the fourth round. He was also in Davis Cup action last week and won two matches against Turkish opponents, losing only five games.
