Top seeded Carlos Alcaraz attempts to continue his impressive (though belated) start to the new year.  He takes on tenth seed Jannik Sinner hoping to make it four finals in a row in 2023. Alcaraz missed the Australian Open this year and didn't make his seasonal debut until the clay court tournaments in South America. He won one tournament and lost to Cameron Norrie in the final of the other. Back on hard courts, the 19-year-old won Indian Wells and is now one match away from successfully defending his Miami Masters title. He has to do that to remain top of the world rankings or Novak Djokovic will return to the top spot. Alcaraz has won all four of his matches in straight sets in this tournament. Only a tie-break in the third round against Dusan Lajoivic has seen a player win more than four games in a set against him. He was impressive against Taylor Fritz in the last round, only losing six games. That took his record for this year to 18-1 and no losses on this surface. He leads Jannik Sinner 3-2 in previous meetings and the Spaniard has won the last two. Sinner's two wins have come on clay and grass courts. The most recent meeting was at this stage in the Indian Wells Master with Alcaraz winning in straight sets.

Jannik Sinner is the tenth seed but was 11th in the last ranking list published. In the live rankings he's up to ninth and that equals his career high. He's fifth in the live ATP Race and will go fourth if beating Alcaraz. It's been a consistent year for the Italian and this is his fourth semi-final of the year. He won the title in Montpellier and was the beaten finalist in Rotterdam. Then came his run to the last four in Indian Wells and another good performance in this Miami Masters. Sinner has also reached the last four without dropping a set but can he get revenge for the loss to Alcaraz in Indian Wells? We don't believe he can and go for the top seed to reach a fourth successive final.
