Carlos Alcaraz is bidding to add the Miami Open title to the one he won at Indian Wells last weekend. The top seed faces unseeded Gael Monfils for a place in the fourth round of this Masters 1000 tournament. The seeded players who could be the winner's opponent in round four are 16th seed Ben Shelton and 23rd seeded Lorenzo Musetti. They are yet to play their third round matches yet due to the rain delays of Friday. Alcaraz won this title in 2022 and got to the semi-finals last year. He's the world number two and winning this outdoor hard court title wold take him to within 280 points of the absent Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard is third in the Live ATP Race with only Sinner and Medvedev above him. He had a bye in the first round and then beat unseeded fellow Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena for the loss of only three games.

Gael Monfils has never recorded a win over his opponent. Their only meeting was two years ago at Indian Wells with Alcaraz winning in sraight sets. Monfils was ranked 47th when this tournament began but is up to 43rd in the live rankings. He's beaten Dusan Lajovic and 33rd seed Jordan Thompson to reach round three here for only the second time since 2016. It was a tough match in round two as he lost the first set to Thompson on a tie-break. He recovered well though and only dropped three games in the next two sets. This year has seen him get to the semi-finals in Doha and the last 16 at Indian Wells. We tip the in-form Alcaraz to win this in straight sets.
