25th seed Jack Draper is in round three of the US Open but not facing the opponent he thought he'd have. Rather than taking on Carlos Alcaraz, he faces unseeded Botic Van de Zandschulp. Here's our match prediction.
Draper has never gotten past round two of the other three Grand Slams. It's a different story in New York though and each of his three appearances in New York has seen him at least get to this stage.
A win over his Dutch opponent will see him in the fourth round here for the second successive year. The only British seed in the men's singles has so far this week beaten Zhizhen Zhang and Facundo Diaz Acosta.
Both wins were in straight sets, though Zhang retired in the third set of their first round match due to injury. Draper is now 27th in the live rankings.
Botic Van de Zandschulp has lost in the second round of this Grand Slam for the past two years. However, when making his debut in New York in 2021 he made it all the way to the quarter-finals so obviously likes this tournament.
That love for New York must have been boosted when he defeated third seed Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the last round. Before that he had beaten Denis Shapovalov, also without dropping a set.
He's now 68th in the live rankings but six places lower in the ATP Race. It's not been the greatest of years and this is the first time he's won two successive matches in an ATP Tour hard court event in 2024.
New York suits him though and we tip Draper to win but both players to win a set.
