Lorenzo Sonego and Ben Shelton will be facing off at the French Open on Monday. The two meet in the first round, meeting for the third time in their careers. Hugo Gaston or Ugo Blanchet awaits the winner, and below is our prediction of the match.

Apart from the Munich Open, the clay season hasn’t been very friendly to Shelton. He has failed to match his run to the final in Germany, falling earlier in Madrid and Rome.

Despite his shaky form in the two Masters events, Shelton will hold the favorite’s tag coming into this game. In two of his three meetings with Sonego, Shelton emerged the winner, and he will be looking to extend this head-to-head run.

This will be the second matchup between these two in 2025 and the third straight at a Grand Slam. Sonego hasn’t had the best of times this season, but he can bank on the fact that he won their only clay meeting.
