Andrey Rublev tries yet again to get past the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam. The sixth seed faces unseeded Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round of the 2024 hard court US Open. Here's our prediction for this first round match.
Rublev has reached four previous US Open quarter-finals, including in 2022 and 2023. Altogether, the Russian has played in ten Grand Slam quarter-finals but has lost every single one of them.
He's in good form at present and will hope to go deep in this year's tournament. Rublev recently made it to the final of the Rogers Cup, including beating Jannik Sinner. The Italian got his revenge when beating Rublev in Cincinnati.
His last four tournaments have seen Rublev get to at least the quarter-finals. He leads Wild 1-0 in previous meetings, that was in this year's Australian Open when Rublev won in five sets. He's won two titles so far this year, one on this surface.
Thiago Seyboth Wild is 68th in the live rankings with Rublev currently in sixth position. The Brazilian reached the last 16 in the recent Winston Salem Open, losing to qualifier Learner Thien. That's his only hard court tournament since Miami in March.
2024 hard court form is patchy and he's yet to get past the last 32 of an ATP Tour event. much preferring to play on clay. We tip Rublev to win this in straight sets.
