Group A action returns at the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), with COSAFA nations Zambia and Comoros facing off. The two nations’ opening matches at the competition yielded contrasting outcomes, leaving Comoros bottom of the group and Zambia third. Read on for our prediction of the match at Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca.
While the two sides regularly face off in the COSAFA competition and AFCON qualifiers, this will mark their first ever AFCON meeting. This will also be the eighth time the two nations face off, with Zambia being the dominant side.
In the first four encounters between them, Chipolopolo won. However, Comoros have been gaining ground in recent matchups. In the last three clashes, Comoros posted two wins, with one ending in a draw. While Les Coelacantes look to build on these gains, they have done well in attack in this fixture. They only failed to score in the first-ever meeting with Zambia.

Zambia - Comoros: Form Analysis
Zambia arrived in Morocco firmly focused on replicating their 2012 heroics as they lifted the African title. Their ambitions don’t match with the form they carried into this competition, though. The South African nation started off their charge with a slice of luck and a point in the 1-1 draw with Mali.
Earlier in the game, their opponents missed a penalty, and then Zambia needed a late Patson Daka equalizer to avoid starting with defeat. Still, they are winless at AFCON in 11 matches, having drawn nine times.
The last time they won the second group game at AFCON was back in 1996. Zambia have also conceded in each of the last four AFCON matches.
Three of Zambia’s last four AFCON matches ended in 1-1 draws.
Comoros started their 2025 journey on a strong footing against hosts Morocco but would capitulate in the second half. It ended in a 2-0 defeat, and they will be looking to bounce back here.
In their last two meetings with Zambia, Comoros emerges as winners, both games ending 1-0. In the spirit of their performance against Morocco, Comoros will not be faulted for feeling confident about this game.
They also had a slice of luck as Morocco missed a penalty in the match. Another downside from their opening result is that in their five matches at AFCON, Comoros haven't managed a clean sheet.

Zambia & Comoros Squad Analysis
Patson Daka will be expected to lead the Zambians once again, after scoring his second AFCON goal. His strike against Mali once again came late, and he can make a good bet for a second-half goal.
Three of his last four goals for Zambia came after the 85th minute. The last goal Zambia ever scored against Comoros was his, in the 71st minute. Willard Mwanza was also a standout performer in the Mali game, his first ever AFCON game.
The Power Dynamos keeper saved a first-half penalty to keep Zambia in the match. Mwanza will hope to give Zambia their second clean sheet in 15 matches.
Comoros’ M’Changama and Zambia’s Daka have both scored previously in this fixture.
Comoros manager Stefano Cusin will have to make a decision on Yannis Kari, who was subbed off after picking up a caution.
Cusin may opt to leave him out in favor of a more attack-oriented team after sending out a more defensive side against Morocco, understandably so.
Skipper Youssouf M’Changama will likely be deployed in an advanced position after playing more defensively against Morocco. It will mean more attacking support for Rafiki Said, who impressed as a lone striker in the opening game.

Our Zambia vs Comoros Prediction
The early meetings between these nations were high scoring. That was when Zambia had total control in this fixture. However, with Comoros improving, there have been fewer and fewer goals seen in this matchup. In the last three matches, only four goals were scored when these nations met.
Zambia have been goal-shy in recent outings, failing to score in four of their last eight games. Also, both sides had low xG in the opening round of matches, and we could see the same here. Our prediction for Zambia v Comoros is for less than 2.5 goals.
