Fourth seed Cori Gauff will take on qualifier Yuliia Starodubtseva in the quarter-finals in Beijing. This match is scheduled for Thursday and we have the prediction ready.

A first career meeting between these two will produce the opponent to face Paula Badosa or Zhang Shuai in the semis. Yuliia Starodubtseva is having a phenomenal run in Beijing.

She started her campaign in the qualifying rounds and has now won six successive matches without dropping a set. This streak did not start at the China Open though.

Starodbutseva reached the last eight in Monastir as a qualifier before arriving in Beijing. In this period, she played 11 matches, winning 10 times and as a result, has broken into the WTA top 100.

She is currently 79th in the live ranking. Starodubtseva defeated Anna Kalinskaya by the loss of five games to set up this showdown.

Cori Gauff is now one win away from equaling her result from last season here. Gauff made her Beijing debut in 2023 and reached the semi-finals, winning 390 ranking points.

The American has been in fine form on her return and is one of the favorites to go all the way this season. She defeated former China Open champion Naomi Osaka in the fourth round.

The two players split the first two sets then Osaka pulled out with injury before the third set. She has now compiled a 44-15 record, registering 25 of her wins on hard courts.

Gauff is seeking her second title of the season to add to her success in Auckland at the start of the year. Success in China will see her move from sixth to fourth in the WTA world rankings.
