An unseeded player will be in the final of the ATP Chengdu Open. That's because the semi-final in the lower half of the draw sees Jannik Hanfmann and Juncheng Shang face each other. Here's our match prediction.
The winner of this match will face either top seed Lorenzo Musetti or qualifier Alibek Kachmazov in the final of this hard court tournament. Shang is hoping it'll be third time lucky for him on Monday.
The 19-year-old has reached two ATP hard court semi-finals this year buf lost both of them. This run to the last four in Chengdu has taken the Chinese player to a new career-high of 55th, beating his previous best by 11 places.
Shang has had wins over Kei Nishikori, eighth-seed Roman Safiullin (after losing the first set) and then the second seeded Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals.
Jannik Hanfmann was down at 95th in the latest ranking list. He's in his second ATP Tour semi-final of the year but the other was achieved on a clay court. Reaching the semi-final in Chengdu has seen him rise to 82nd.
He had a disappointing US Open with a first qualifying round defeat. Hanfmann started to show improved form when he won both of his matches representing Germany in the Davis Cup last week.
That improved form has continued in Chengdu with wins over Shintaro Mochizuki, seventh seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (in three sets) and in the last eight, a straight sets win over the fourth seed Pedro Martinez.
