by Ian John in League One Predictions
Tuesday night in League One sees the fourth-placed Stags, Mansfield Town, make the journey west to take on the Latics of Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium. Will our prediction favour either team? Or is this a match where a bet on the goals scored, or lack of them, could be the option to back?
Wigan come into this game with one of the strangest records in League One. The Latics lie 17th in the table with 13 points from their 11 games. However, they have scored just nine goals in those matches, but have also conceded just seven, the second-best defensive record in the division.
Incredibly, they have conceded just one goal at home from five league matches played. Which will certainly alert Mansfield as to the difficulty they face trying to find the net at the DW Stadium.
Both teams were in action at the weekend, Wigan going down to a 2-0 defeat away to Cambridge United, while Mansfield Town suffered a rare home loss, losing 1-0 at Field Mill to Stevenage.
That loss ended a run of five successive wins for the Stags, during which they scored two goals in each game. It also meant that Nigel Clough’s team dropped from third to fourth in the current League One table.

Our Wigan vs Mansfield Town Prediction
Our prediction for Wigan Athletic vs. Mansfield Town in League One is: Under 2.5 Goals scored.
This is another game where modern trends for both teams are vastly different to the history of this fixture. Historically, this game has produced plenty of goals. But the teams have not met for many years and this season, Wigan have found goals few and far between. Mansfield are strong defensively too but they have also found goals hard to come by of late. Another tight game looks on the cards at the DW Stadium where goals may be at a premium.
