Top seed Victoria Mboko faces the unseeded Emma Navarro in the final of this year’s WTA event in Strasbourg. This is their first-ever meeting. Mboko has lost two finals this year, and meeting an in-form Navarro may have this jinxed against her in our prediction.

Mboko has so far this season produced an abysmal record in championship matches, as she has lost every single one. A two-time tour champion, Mboko fell in finals in Adelaide and Doha.

To advance to this week’s tournament's deciding match, the world number nine defeated Jacqueline Cristian in three sets. The Canadian, debuting in Strasbourg, has compiled a 22-7 record and is 3-1 on clay courts.

Emma Navarro has found some stability this week and will be eager to see things through and earn her first title of the season. The American started the season poorly and had managed to win only four times in her first 14 outings.

Switching to clay has given her the balance she was looking for. Navarro has recorded five of her nine wins so far on clay. Those victories have come in her last six outings.

A winner of two tour titles, the 25-year-old outclassed compatriot Ann Li in the semis, winning by the loss of four games. Advancing to the final has catapulted her 10 places in the live ranking and back to the top 30 at position 29.
