Twenty-seventh seed Victoria Azarenka and 24th seed Katie Boulter will clash next at the Miami Open. They will play each other in the fourth round with the winner playing either Yulia Putintseva or Anhelina Kalinina next. Victoria Azarenka is having a strong return back to this event after a four-year hiatus. The Russian former world number one defeated seventh seed Qinwen Zheng in straight sets in the last round. This was her 12th win in 17 outings this season. Azarenka, who last played in Miami in 2019, has played only on hard courts. The highlight of her season came in Brisbane where she made the semifinals. She also made the fourth round in Melbourne and the quarterfinals in Doha. Advancing to this round has allowed the 34-year-old to move back into the world's top 30. She is now placed at number 28 in the live ranking after making a four-place leap.

Katie Boulter has also been in splendid form this season and so far has won 13 times in 17 outings. Five of her wins came in her title run in San Diego at the start of March. This was her second career tour title. Boulter doesn’t have an exciting tour career. Before this season, she had never won multiple main draw matches at WTA 1000 events. The Briton defeated 11th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia by the loss of five games in the last round. This was her second successive 2-0 win here. She has now moved up to 26th place in the live ranking which is a new career high.
