The second round of matches in the women’s volleyball competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics will get underway on Wednesday with the USA taking on Serbia. Team USA are currently in third place in Pool A while the Eagles lead the group standings. Check out our match prediction below. 

USA suffered a shock in the first match of their Olympic title defence as came up against a game Chinese team that handed them a 3-2 defeat. 

The defending champions were uncharacteristically slow out the blocks and lost the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19 before finding any sort of rhythm. Back-to-back winning sets followed to pull them into the tie but the Chinese held their nerve in the fifth set, edging it 15-13.

That result marked the USA’s fourth loss in their last 10 games in all competitions and third defeat in a row to the Asian champs. 

Serbia, on the other hand, made no mistake in their opening match of the competition against the tournament hosts, as they surged to victory in three straight sets. 

The Eagles were excellent at the net on defence, while the likes of Tijana Boskovic and Maja Ognjenovic were solid on offence, claiming their side 25-17 wins in the first two sets and a 25-22 third set to clinch all three points on offer. 

Team USA won the last matchup between these teams but Serbia lead the head-to-head standings 3-1 in the last four encounters.
