Fourth seed Ugo Humbert takes on fellow Frenchman Harold Moyet in the hard court Moselle Open quarter finals. Humbert is the second highest remaining seed behind Karen Khachanov after the top two seeds withdrew. Potential opponents in the last four for the winner include sixth seeded Lorenzo Sonego and Fabio Fognini. Humbert is currently ranked a career high 23rd but up a place in the live rankings. He's played one match so far and beat Dominic Thiem in three sets, losing the middle one. He was ranked 36th in September but has had been in strong form since then. Notable performances have seen him get to the last four in Basel and quarter finals in Shanghai and Beijing. Opponents beaten in those tournaments include Stefanos Tsitispas and Andrey Rublev. In his last seven matches he's won the first set in five of them.

Like his opponent, Harold Mayot is also French but not just that, both were born in Metz. Mayot came into this tournament ranked only 176th and had to win two qualifying matches to get into the main draw. Most of this year has been spent on the Challenger Tour with his best performance being reaching the final of a hard court event in Mallorca in early September. Mayot got to the last 64 at Wimbledon on grass and the two matches he played there are the only ATP Tour main draw matches he's played this year before this event. So far this week  in the main draw he's had wins over Yosuke Watanuki and Gregoire Barrere and is up to 161st in the live rankings. Beating Humbert can take him up to a new career high of 139th.
