The Hundred Men’s Competition will get underway this week, and in the first match of the competition, we will see the Trent Rockets take on the Southern Brave on Tuesday. The Rockets are the defending champions of this competition. They finished last year’s tournament with a record of six wins and two losses, finishing two points ahead of the Manchester Originals. They met the Originals in the final of the competition last year and managed to chase down the 120-run target with two wickets in hand and two balls to spare. Their top batsmen last year were Dawid Malan (377 runs), Alex Hales (259 runs), and Colin Munro (206 runs), while their best bowlers were Samit Patel and Sam Cook, with 13 and 11 wickets, respectively. All the players mentioned are returning for the side this season as well; however, Rashid Khan has pulled out at the last minute through injury. Still, they will come into this match as the favourites and will be expecting to get off to a winning start. 

While the Southern Braves did finish last season second-bottom, they were one of only two sides that were able to beat this opponent. In match 25 last year, the Braves chased down 138 with six wickets and five balls left to spare. Not just last year, though, the Braves also beat the Rockets in the playoffs in 2021 by a massive seven wickets after containing their opponents to just 96 runs and went on to lift the title. Last season, the Braves recorded three wins and five losses in their eight matches, with a net run rate of -0.593. Alex Davies was their top scorer with 155, and Ross Whitley came second with 150, while in the bowling department, James Fuller took nine wickets. The Braves were very poor last season but have the class in their ranks to return to the top of the standings as they did the year before. They are the outsiders in this one but will be quietly confident in their chances, having gotten the better of this opponent in the last two seasons.
