Second seed Carlos Alcaraz is up against unseeded Thiago Seyboth Wild as he continues his defence of his Madrid Masters ttle. In the next round (the last 16), the winner of this match will face either 13th seed Ugo Humbert or the 23rd seeded Jan-Lennard Struff. Alcaraz is the two-time defending champion in this outdoor clay court tournament. If he can again win the title, he'll become the first player to ever win this title three years in a row. Alcaraz is the world number three but can't climb any higher even if he does win this tournament. In the Live ATP Race, he's in seventh place. One tournament has been won by the Spaniard this year but on a hard court. He did play on the South American clay court tour earlier this year and got to the semi-final in Buenos Aires. Round two of this tournament saw him beat Alexander Shevchenko for the loss of only three games. 

Thiago Seyboth Wild was a career-high 63rd in the latest ranking list. He's now set a new one and has gone up two places thanks to this run to round three. The first round saw the Brazilian beat Roman Safiullin in straight sets. He followed that up by beating the 28th-seeded Lorenzo Musetti without dropping a set. Wild is now 66th in the Live ATP Race. He made a terrible start to the new year with only one of his first eight matches being won. That poor run included a couple of losses on clay. He returned to form in Rio where he reached the last eight. This is far tougher and we tip Alcaraz to win this match in straight sets.
