Sixth seeded Andrey Rublev looks to build on his surprise win over top seed Carlos Alcaraz on Wednesday. He takes on the 12th seed Taylor Fritz in the last four of the Madrid Masters. Rublev is seventh in the rankings and will stay in that position even if winning this outdoor clay court tournament. He's up to ninth in the Live ATP Race and will climb another position if winning this match. He did well to come from a set down to beat the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in round four. He only dropped five games in the two sets he won against the Spaniard. This is his first semi-final in this tournament and he's only dropped that set against Alcaraz in his four matches played to date. 

Taylor Fritz leads Andrey Rublev 5-3 in previous meetings. Only once have they met on clay and that was won by Rublev in three sets last year. That's the only loss Fritz has had to Rublev in their last five meetings but can he beat him on clay? The American has made it past round four in Madrid for the first time. This year's European clay court season has already seen him reach one final. He lost to Jan-Lennard Struff in the BMW Open final last month. He also didn't lose a set in this tournament until the last round. The middle one against the 21st-seeded Francisco Cerundolo was lost. This could be a tight match but we go for Rublev to get the victory.
