Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas makes his Los Cabos Open debut on Thursday facing unseeded John Isner in the second round. Stefanos Tsitsipas is taking to the court for the first time in slightly over three weeks. The world number five was last in action at Wimbledon where he suffered a second-round exit. Tsitsipas has not dominated this season as he would have liked. He has compiled a 33-13 win-loss record and is yet to win a title despite playing in two finals. One of those finals was on hard court at the Australian Open. But as he has dominated on the surface with 11 victories out of 14, he will fancy his title chances here. First, he will have to get past Isner. Tsitsipas and Isner have battled each other seven times in the past with the former winning five times. Four of those victories have been on hard court.

John Isner has also defeated Tsitsipas on hard court. He will hope to rise to the occasion as he did in Shanghai back in 2017. The veteran American has struggled this year which might end up being his last season as a pro. He has lost more matches, 11, than the eight he has won. The majority of his defeats, six, have come on hard court where he has managed only one win. But with the form he has been on lately, the former world number eight will fancy his chances here. Isner has won four of his last six matches and made it to the semifinals in Newport. To begin his second appearance in Los Cabos, he defeated Rinky Hijikata in straight sets. And as it has been synonymous with him, the match saw a tiebreaker in the second set. He is now up to 110th in the live ranking. The winner here will advance to the quarterfinals where a showdown with either Nicolas Jarry or Gijs Brouwer awaits.
