Match 6 at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup will see Sri Lanka taking on Ireland at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Lions and the Men In Green are drawn alongside Australia, Oman and Zimbabwe in Group B. Let’s get into the match prediction.
Tournament co-host Sri Lanka are one of the favourites alongside Australia to progress to the Super Eight of the 2026 T20 World Cup. They won the tournament back in 2014.
However, the Lions have endured a notable drop-off in recent years, failing to reach the knockout round in 2024. They also lost their most recent T20 series 3-0 to England.
Sri Lanka have lost seven of their last 10 T20Is but have never been beaten by their upcoming opponents in any format of the game.
Meanwhile, Ireland have featured in every edition of the T20 World Cup since 2009 but have only got beyond the group stage on two occasions, most recently in 2022 (Super 12).
The Men in Green have been in decent shape leading up to the tournament. They beat the UAE back-to-back last month, where 23-year-old spinner Matthew Humphries caught the eye.
Ireland have split their last 10 T20I matches, five wins and five losses. They faced Sri Lanka in a warm-up match ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup and lost the match by 41 runs.

Our Sri Lanka vs Ireland Prediction
As is likely to be the case for most of the group-stage matches, the more established full member nations will be installed as short-priced favourites, and that’s the case here in favour of Sri Lanka.
However, Ireland have shown over the years that they are capable of pulling off an upset. Both these sides’ strengths lie in their batting lineup, so we’re expecting at least one half-century to be scored, potentially by one of Kusal Mendis or the in-form Pathum Nissanka. Our Sri Lanka vs Ireland prediction is any player to score 50.
