Sporting Lisbon will look to continue their dominance in the Primeira Liga when they take on AVS at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Sunday evening. The Lions are sitting atop the league standings after five games, while AVS are in ninth place. Let’s get into the match prediction.

After surging to the league title last season, Sporting have looked impeccable again this season, and it already feels as though it is going to take a massive drop-off for them not to challenge for the crown this term. 

The Lions have been flawless across all competitions, scoring 19 goals in their five league wins and picking up a 2-0 victory in their opening round Champions League fixture in midweek. 

At home, Sporting are unbeaten in a whopping 26 league matches dating back to February last year and have scored two or more goals in all but two matches during their incredible home run.

Meanwhile, newly promoted AVS will be fairly content with their performances over the early stages of the top-flight campaign, having notched up seven points in their first five games of the term. 

They have picked up victories over Vitoria Guimaraes and Rio Ave, drawn against Nacional, and lost to Gil Vicente and Santa Clara. 

Notably, the visitors have played two games on the road this season and both ended in defeat. While they have never faced Sporting in the top flight, it is reasonable to conclude that AVS will need one of their best-ever performances to stand a chance in this one.
