World No. 1 South Africa round off their three-match home Test series against UK teams in the Nations Championship by welcoming 12th-ranked Wales to Kings Park Stadium on Saturday. While the Springboks are the overwhelming favourites here, the two teams have been involved in a string of Tests with moderate to low scorelines, leading us to favour an under 71.5 total points in our prediction.
South Africa eased past Scotland 42–28 last week to continue their winning start to the Nations Championship. Last week's victory saw the team maintain their perfect start to the competition and extend their Test winning streak to 10.
Notably, South Africa’s terrific winning run has been built on disciplined defence that consistently limits opponents' scoring output, and this has resulted in a string of moderate to low-scoring contests. The Springboks have conceded 16.7 points per game across their last six Tests, with seven of their last eight matches (excluding the Barbarians clash) producing no more than 70 total points. Meanwhile, 12 of their last 13 home Tests have not crossed the 71-point benchmark.
After seeing off Fiji in their Nations Championship opener, Wales fell 35–21 to Argentina in their second fixture last week. Steve Tandy’s side will face their biggest test in the competition on Saturday. They have not been prolific in attack, scoring 18.8 points per game across their last eight Tests, each of the last seven staying below the 72-point mark.

Our South Africa vs Wales Prediction
South Africa enter this clash as arguably the stronger side and are the overwhelming favourites to secure victory. However, the Springboks’ recent results point to what is likely to be a moderate or low-scoring affair. Their rock-solid defence has contributed immensely to their terrific winning run, as well as limiting the overall scoring in their matches.
Most of Wales’ recent Tests have been moderate to low-scoring games. Combined with their low scoring output, we expect another moderate to low-scoring contest that stays below the total. Our South Africa vs Wales prediction: under 71.5 points.
