Afghanistan will be desperate to avoid consecutive defeats to start their 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup when they face a red-hot South Africa side on Wednesday. This Group D match between the first-placed Proteas and the fourth-placed Atalans in Ahmedabad comes with our prediction of Ryan Rickleton scoring at least 21 runs.
South Africa won their opening game against Canada by a 57-run margin to also get a massive run rate advantage. Afghanistan lost to New Zealand by five wickets in their tournament opener.
The Proteas posted a commanding 213 for 4 against Canada on Monday at this venue to underline their status. The Canadians couldn’t sustain the charge and could only muster 156 for 8.
For the South Africans, Aiden Markram (59 off 32) and Lungi Ngidi (4 for 31) were the stars. With a strong batting line-up that is boosted by the presence of all-rounders, South Africa have a strong chance to continue their winning run.
Afghanistan posted a competitive 182 for 6 against New Zealand but failed to defend the score as the Kiwis reached the target with 2.1 overs to spare. It was Gulbadin Naib (63 off 35 balls) who led the Afghans with the bat, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2 for 31) proved his worth with the ball, but Rashid Khan disappointed (4-0-36-1).

Our South Africa vs Afghanistan Prediction
A loss to New Zealand in their opening match of the tournament means Afghanistan have to win this to have any hopes of qualifying for the Super 8 stage. Otherwise, they will have to hope that the Kiwis or the Proteas slip up against one of the Associate nations. Afghanistan will not have the benefits of a spin-friendly pitch, as the Ahmedabad venue is likely to favour the Protea pacers.
South Africa’s surge could continue, and our South Africa vs Afghanistan prediction is Ryan Rickelton over 20.5 runs.
