Jannik Sinner is back on the court after the Roland Garros disappointment. He is defending his title at Halle and will be up against local favorite Yannick Hanfmann in the first round. This will be the third meeting between the two players, and below is our prediction for the match.

Sinner’s last outing lasted an incredible five and a half hours as he lost in five sets to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final. The Italian is playing in his third event since returning from suspension, and in the earlier two, he reached the final.

In both finals, he was beaten by Alcaraz and will be happy to note that his nemesis is not at Halle.

In the earlier two matches between these players, Hanfmann was on the losing end—at the US Open and Wimbledon. He will hope Sinner comes still hampered by the loss at Roland Garros.

For a player who has struggled through the qualification rounds in the past two grass events, it will take a tremendous effort to sink Sinner. Hanfmann arrived here off the back of a first-round defeat in Stuttgart.

 He has already seen off Yoshihito Nishioka and Nicolas Jarry in the qualifiers. The writing, though, is on the wall for the German; he has six losses in the first round at the tour level. The winner from this match will face Alexander Bublik next.
