Egypt kicked off their 2025 AFCON campaign by defeating Mozambique. They rallied from a goal down in the first half to edge the Mambas 2-1, thanks to Mohamed Salah's stoppage-time winner.

Angola suffered defeat in their 2025 AFCON opener, losing 2–1 to South Africa. Burnley forward Lyle Foster separated the tie with a 79th-minute winner after a 1-1 draw at the break.
The Red Devils settled for a 1-1 draw against Mozambique in their second fixture on Friday, thanks to Knowledge Musona's equalizer deep into first-half stoppage time. That result saw them slip to the bottom of the Group B standings with faint hopes of qualifying for the knockout round.
They will require nothing less than victory against Egypt to strengthen their hopes of securing the round-of-16 ticket. However, Patrice Beaumelle's side have now failed to win their last four competitive games (D3, L1).

Egypt will parade a rotated side from the one that faced South Africa. Head coach Hossam Hassan confirmed he will "introduce new faces" to check player fatigue and allow youngsters get a run. Mohamed Shehata, Mohanad Lasheen, and Mahmoud Saber are strong candidates to start in the midfield.
