Italy, the joint EuroBasket Women 2025 hosts, will begin their tournament against Serbia on Wednesday. The two are pooled in Group B alongside Slovenia and Lithuania. Below is our prediction for this match.
Serbia are seeking a third European title and their first since the 2021 edition. The eighth-ranked nation in the FIBA Basketball World Rankings, Serbia, qualified for their 11th overall championship after topping their qualifying group.
Marina Maljkovic’s players won five of six qualifiers and also both of their build-up matches against Switzerland earlier in June. Veteran Yvonne Anderson remains on the team and should be a key component if they are to add a third title.
Italy are seeking their second European title. Not since their debut in the tournament almost 90 years ago have they been crowned continental champions.
Playing at home will have Andrea Capobianco’s team eager to end this long wait for a European crown. Italy, who last made a podium finish 30 years ago, are playing in their seventh straight championship.
One of four hosts for this year’s tournament, Italy, topped their qualifying group, which consisted of all four hosts. They won four of six dead-rubber matches and also two of four friendly matches in preparing for the tournament.
