Two years after they last faced off, Sebastian Ofner and Nuno Borges will renew their rivalry, this time at the Geneva Open. The two are clashing in the second round, with the winner proceeding to meet either Karen Khachanov or Kei Nishikori. Read on for our prediction.

Ofner is back after a troubled period with injury and will feel Borges is a beatable opponent. This season he has only played on clay, and having started from the qualifying round, he has compiled a 13-6 record.

The Austrian met fellow qualifier Ivan Gakhov in the first round and won in straight sets in under one hour. The challenge ahead will be much tougher.

Nuno Borges lost in four sets in the only meeting between these two at the 2023 US Open. He will come here seeking revenge, and having spent less time on the court, the Portuguese will feel confident about this.

Borges is coming from a number of tricky encounters, leaving him with four losses in seven matches. However, his win in three sets against Alex Michelsen in the first round should be a real motivator.

Borges feels fitter, given his opponent hasn’t played a lot of main draw matches in the tour. However, for the Portuguese, winning in straight sets is increasingly becoming rare. He only did so recently at Monte Carlo when Holger Rune retired.
