A busy weekend of rugby union internationals ends with Scotland hosting South Africa at Murrayfield. The home side have only won five matches against the Springboks and all were achieved on home soil. However, they face a tough match this weekend against the current world champions. Scotland are in good form and a win over South Africa would be their sixth in a row. However, as you'll read further examination of that good run tells a different story as to their hopes of winning on Sunday.

South Africa are ranked second in the world and have been in excellent form this year as they added the Rugby Championship to their 2023 World Cup triumph. Every country dreams of getting a win over the reigning world champions and that will be the aim of the Scottish side this weekend. Dreaming about something and achieving it are two completely different matters. Can Scotland win? Read our match prediction.

Scotland - South Africa: Form Analysis

As we mentioned earlier, Scotland have won their last five international matches. Those wins have come against Canada, USA, Chile, Uruguay and Fiji, all not quite on the level of the Springboks. South Africa have won their last eight matches against Scotland with the last Scottish victory being on home soil seven years ago. Their last two matches against South Africa have seen them score only 18 points.

South Africa are in top form.

The most recent match between these two countries was in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. South Africa won that match 18-3 and went on to lift the trophy. They come into this match having won six of their last seven matches. The standard of opposition has been much higher with them taking part and winning the Rugby Championship against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand.

The only loss was to Argentina and that was by a single point. Their only  two defeats in the last 21 matches played have both been by just a one-point margin with Ireland the other side to beat them.

Scotland & South Africa Squad Analysis

Scotland have received a major boost ahead of this match against South Africa. Finn Russell is back in their starting line-up after recovering from his injury problems. That's not the only piece of good news for the Scottish side.

Ben White is available again and Blair Kinghorn is also going to be playing  in this match. Tom Jordan made a strong debut in Scotland's win over Fiji last weekend. He came on as a replacement in that match but will start at full-back this weekend. Huw Jones and Sione Tuipulotu will be in midfield.

Springboks making plenty of changes.

South Africa have been giving plenty of players chances to play for their national side. Players such as Jesse Kriel, Damian de Allende, Kurt-Lee Arendse and Cheslin Kolbe have all been left out of the team for this match.

On the wings, they will start with Canan Moodie and Makazole Mapaimpi with Lukhanyo Am and Andre Esterhuizen in the centre. Back at number 15 is Willie le Roux in a much-changed starting line-up.

Our Scotland vs South Africa Prediction

South Africa can get a ninth straight win over Scotland. They have made plenty of changes for this game but that's something they have been doing a great deal of in recent months. Their squad is so strong so they can afford to make changes and still get the win.

Scotland have won their last five matches but against opponents not quite on the level of the Springboks. Our main prediction for Scotland v South Africa is South Africa to win and lead at both half and full time.
