Italy’s debut match in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sees them come up against last-minute entrants Scotland. This match on Monday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata between the Scots and the Blues comes with our prediction of a win for Italy.
Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the tournament proper after the Asian side was removed. Italy qualified for the finals by finishing second in the European qualifiers behind the Netherlands and ahead of Jersey on net run rate.
In their opening game of the tournament at this venue against the Windies on Saturday, the Scots wilted under Shimron Hetmyer’s knock to concede 182 for 5. Only Brad Currie (2 for 23) looked good with the ball.
Richie Berrington (42 off 24) kept Scotland in the chase with the scoreboard reading 115 for 3 after 13.1 overs, but that was as good as it got. The Scots also lost both their warm-ups, against Afghanistan and Namibia.
Italy qualified for their first appearance on the world stage by coming second in the European qualifiers. They were then beaten 2-1 by Ireland in Dubai in January, although they won the last of those games.
The Blues brushed away UAE by 112 runs in their only practice match. With some experienced expats like Ben and Harry Manenti and JJ Smuts, this could be Italy’s chance to shine.
