Braga plays host to Sporting at the Estadio Municipal de Braga for this opening round match in the Portuguese Primera Division. The home team are will be looking to build on their excellent fourth place finish last season which saw them narrowly miss out on Champions League qualification. Braga are a team that is either hit or miss and their results are proof of this as they have not had a draw in their last 11 matches. They will be facing last season runners up, a team that they do not have a very good record against. They have only won one of the last six matches against Sporting but that victory did come in the last meeting between the sides. Braga have had an extended pre-season playing seven matches with great results as they have won six of their seven games.

Sporting will be looking to start their campaign off with a victory but they won’t have it easy as they face a team that finished fourth last season. The two position difference between the sides are slightly misleading and does not show the dominance Sporting enjoyed as they were 20 points above Braga in the final standings. The visitors will be out for revenge as they lost at home the last time these teams met and that defeat probably cost them the opportunity for the league title. Sporting played six matches in the pre-season but only recorded on win with three draws and two losses. Their away form has been excellent though, winning five of their last six matches.
