The PBA Philippine Cup finals sees a crucial game five between the San Miguel Beermen and the defending champions TNT that will put one of these two teams within a single win of lifting the trophy. TNT showed great heart to respond with a game four 100-87 win to even the series up at 2-2 with the return of head coach Chot Reyes to the sideline certainly playing a part in the result. They’ll now be tasked with winning a second straight game against a Beermen side that has yet to lose two consecutive games this season. The defending champions can expect a fired up San Miguel side led by the recently crowned Best Player of the Conference in June Mar Fajardo as well as guard Jaymar Cruz, two of the league’s most dangerous players.

As mentioned, San Miguel are a fantastic 6-0 coming off a loss this season but TNT’s resilience shouldn’t be overlooked. The defending champions have only lost seven games this season and are 6-1 in the games following a defeat. As always with this series, TNT will have to focus on limiting the explosive Beermen duo of Fajardo and Perez. The two are the driving force behind  San Miguel’s highest scoring offense in the PBA and it’s well-documented the Beermen’s success when they break the century-mark  in games this season. Whether or not they can do it again with Chot Reyes back on the sideline for TNT remains to be seen.

San Miguel Beermen & TNT Tropang 5G Squad Analysis

Mikey Williams continues his inefficient shooting and the TNT leading scorer has struggled from the field in all four games of the series. The 30-year-old is averaging 15 points per game this series on just 33.8% shooting as the San Miguel defense have done a good job bothering the Los Angeles-born Filipino American. Williams will need to step up in the final few games if TNT are to have a chance at repeating as champions. On the other side, June Mar Fajardo was recently crowned with the Best Player of the Conference award, the legendary big-man’s 9th in his illustrious career. The 32-year-old Fajardo has been immense in the Finals, averaging 21 points per game while dominating the glass with 17.5 rebounds. Expect another strong performance from him in a crucial game five.

We’re going to back the San Miguel Beermen to bounce back yet again this season and go up 3-2 in this series while covering the -2.5 point spread. This is a tough one to call as TNT looks a different beast altogether, especially on the defensive end, with Chot Reyes back calling the plays. However, there is simply too much elite talent and championship pedigree in this Beermen side to bet against them in this spot, especially with the resilience they have shown this season having yet to lose back-to-back games. This should be another closely fought matchup but back the Beermen to edge it out and get the win.
