Match 52 of the 2024 Indian Premier League will see the Royal Challengers Bangalore taking on the Gujarat Titans on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are bottom of the table, while the visitors are in eighth place. The Royal Challengers Bangalore seem to have found some form lately, but the question remains: is it too little, too late? After winning only one of their first eight matches in the competition, they have now won two on the bounce, with the most recent victory coming by nine wickets over this opponent on Sunday. Will Jacks headlined the side’s innings with 100*(41), while Virat Kohli put on another excellent display with the bat, scoring 70* in just 44 balls. That took RCB to six points after ten matches, four points off the playoff places with four games left to play. Despite his innings and having worn the orange cap since the first week of the competition, Kohli has now slipped to second place in the leading run-scorer standings, nine runs behind CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad. RCB have to win the remainder of their games to stand any chance of reaching the last four. 

In contrast, the Gujarat Titans made a positive start to this year’s tournament but have struggled in recent weeks. They come into this match following back-to-back defeats, including a four-run loss to the Delhi Capitals prior to Sunday’s loss to this opponent. In the last match, Sai Sudharsan posted another solid score of 84*(49), while Shahrukh Khan added 58(30). Sudharsan is now up to third place in the orange cap standings, 82 runs behind Kohli. Unfortunately, GT’s bowling attack has been questionable this entire series, and they were found wanting again over the weekend when they only managed to take one wicket, which went to Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore. Despite their recent setback, the Titans are still in the picture to secure a top-four finish, but like RCB, they cannot afford any more dropped points with just four matches remaining in the group stage.
