Caroline Dolehide and Renata Zarazua are back at the Guadalajara Open, facing off in the first round after a year’s absence. These two are familiar foes, having faced off six times before, with each winning three times. They are both coming here in shaky form, and our prediction backs each to win at least one set.

Zarazua is coming off a first-round defeat at the US Open. She fell in three sets to Polina Iatcenko and will be looking to do better here. The Mexican reached the second round the last time she was here and will be looking to go deeper.

This year, though, she hasn’t progressed much past the first round, coming here on a 6-9 record at this stage.

Dolehide hasn’t had a great year either. After missing last year’s edition, she will be looking to do better than her best in 2023. Three years ago, she reached the final only to lose to Maria Sakkari.

Her fortunes have dwindled so much that she returns here as a qualifier. She definitely did well in the earlier two matches. The American beat Sara Sorribes Tormo and Mingge Xu in the qualifying rounds.

After her first-round defeat at the US Open, she’s 244th in the live ranking. On tour, Dolehide has advanced past the first round just once this season.
