French heavyweights RC Toulon play host to Munster in a Champions Cup clash slated for Saturday. Both teams endured winless starts in the competition and Toulon sits bottom of Group 3 while Munster are a place above. For the hosts this is a must win encounter if they are to keep alive any hopes of securing a Champions Cup quarter-finals ticket. This is after a poor start that saw them suffer successive defeats to Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints. The silver lining to the defeats however was a losing bonus point in both matches that might come in handy. Inconsistent recent form in the Top 14 has seen Toulon slip to fifth after suffering a 27-17 defeat to Montpellier last time out. The French side will need Thomas Ramos at his best after scoring the most points in the Champions Cup this season.

Munster are also staring at a possible early exit from the competition following a winless start. Their Champions Cup record thus far reads a draw to Montpellier and a loss against Exeter Chiefs. With their current position in fifth, the visitors are on course to dropping to the Challenge Cup. Munster have also suffered a blip in the United Rugby Championship where they have registered two straight losses. The run has seen them plummet to 10th and are currently out of the playoff slots. Their recent encounter saw them suffer a 22-9 loss to Connacht as they finished the game without a try. The reigning URC champions will be facing Toulon for the first time since 2018 in the quarters of the Champions Cup. Their last visit to the Stade Mayol was back in 2014 where they suffered a 24-16 defeat.
