Hungarian minnows Puskas Akademiya are on the cusp of history as they welcome Fiorentina in their Conference League Play-off return leg. The two sides played to a 3-3 draw in the first leg in Italy last week. Here’s our prediction for the match.

Hosts Puskas incredibly took a 2-0 lead against Fiorentina after 12 minutes in Italy but in the end needed a last-minute leveler. They have never been to the group phase of a European competition and this is thus a big chance for the underdogs.

So far it has been a great season for the hosts. They lead in the Hungarian league and are unbeaten after nine matches in the season, winning seven. Puskas have already played five Conference League matches this season, scoring three times in four of them.

Two-time Conference League finalists Fiorentina have a tough outing in Hungary, facing this free-scoring side. A loss in this game means they’ll miss out on European football for the season. For a side with only one loss in 15 Conference League matches, this isn’t an ideal place to be.

The Italians are not only seeking their first win of the season, they are also looking to shore up defensively. There were plenty of positives from the 0-0 draw with Venezia in their last game. It was their first clean sheet and they had a better defensive display having conceded three a few days earlier.

However, failing to beat a newly promoted side did some harm to Fiorentina’s profile. Raffaele Palladino will hope for a more positive approach to the game in Hungary.
