Portugal are favorites to top Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and they will look to keep that alive when hosting Ireland next. With six points from two matches, Portugal have the early lead in the group, while Ireland are bottom with a point. Read on for our prediction of this match.

Portugal started their charge in the September window with two straight wins.  Two more wins in the current break might in the end be all they need to secure a seventh successive World Cup appearance.

That will, however, need Armenia to drop points. Nonetheless, a five-match unbeaten run suggests Portugal may not be toppled any time soon. Portugal’s last outing ended in a 3-2 win against Hungary.

Ireland lost 3-0 the last time they faced Portugal; it was in a 2024 friendly match. That result extended Ireland’s winless run in this fixture to four matches. The Irish lost three times in that run.

So far Ireland have managed just one point in this group, and it increasingly looks like they will have to depend on the playoffs route.

Last time out Ireland lost 2-1 to Armenia, marking a fourth straight game in which they failed to win. The earlier three were draws, though.
