Top seed Novak Djokovic faces unseeded Lorenzo Musetti in round three of the Monte Carlo Masters. This is the last 16 of this outdoor clay court Masters 1000 tournament. Potential seeded opponents for the winner are sixth seed (and defending champion) Andrey Rublev and 11th seeded Alex de Minaur. Djokovic tops the world rankings and is 12th in the Live ATP Race. This is only his third singles tournament of the year. He got to the last four of the Australian Open but was beaten in his second match at Indian Wells. His first match in this tournament saw him beat unseeded Roman Safiullin for the loss of just three games. Djokovic has won this title on two occasions but not since 2015. His last three times in Monte Carlo have seen him fail to get past the third round. He's won three of his four matches against Musetti with one win coming on clay.

Last year saw these two players meet in the last 16 of this tournament. That's when Musetti got his only win with a three-set victory. The Italian is 24th in the latest ranking list and up to 45th in the ATP Live Race. He has had two straight sets wins to get to the last 32. Round one saw him beat 13th seed Taylor Fritz (much better on other surfaces) and then he defeated Arthur Fils. The 22-year-old lost in the quarterfinals of this tournament last year. This is his second clay court event of 2024 but last week lost in his opening match in Estoril to Nuno Borges. He's only made one last eight appearance this year. That was in the Adelaide hard court event held in January and he only needed one win to get that far. We tip Djokovic to win this in straight sets.
