Norway face Spain in the quarter finals of the 2023 Men's World Handball Championships. This is the fourth successive last eight appearance for the Norwegians who were runners up in both 2017 and 2019. They come into this match having won 11 games in a row. The most recent victory was on Monday when they defeated Germany 28-26 to secure top spot in main round Group III. All six of their matches in these championships have ended in victory for the Norwegian team. The winners of this match will take on either reigning champions Denmark or Hungary in the last eight. The losers play either France or Germany as the fifth to eighth place play-offs resume. Norway have had wins over the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Argentina, Serbia (though they were losing at half time in that game), Qatar and Germany.

Spain won the world title in 2013 and eight years later won the bronze medal at both the worlds and the Summer Olympics. They also won the silver medal at the European Championships that were held last year. They won their preliminary round group in this tournament with three wins over Montenegro, Chile and Iran. That took them into main round Group I in which they finished second behind France. The Spaniards defeated Poland and Slovenia but then lost to France in the match that would decide who won the group. This should be a close match but it's one that Norway can edge.
