Norway have to get over the disappointment of losing in the Men's World Handball Championship quarter finals. They now take on Hungary in the play-offs for fifth to eighth place with the winners of this up against either Germany or Egypt.  Norway have bettered the ninth place finish two years ago. They might have been expecting to reach the semi-finals after leading against Spain in the last eight. That match finished level at the end of normal time and the Spaniards went on to win by one goal after extra time. Before that match they had won six out of six in this tournament. If they do make it into the fifth place play-off, they could face Germany who they beat in the main round.

Hungary are attempting to finish fifth in the world championship for the second time in a row. They lost in the quarter finals two years ago but bounced back to finish in fifth position. They've had a difficult 2023 world championships but probably didn't expect to get this far after only finishing third in their preliminary group. They were playing catch-up in the main round with only two points carried forward. A loss to Sweden was bad news but wins over Brazil and Cape Verde took them into the last eight. They took on defending champions Hungary and had a tough time, going nine goals down at the break. Eventually they lost the match 40-23 and now go into these play-offs. Norway can be backed to get the win here on a -3.5 goals handicap.
