Third seed Nicolas Jarry and sixth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry will meet in the Argentina Open quarterfinals. The winner will then set up a semifinal tie with either Laslo Djere, Andrea Vavassori, Carlos Alcaraz, or Camilo Carabelli. Nicola Jarry is playing amongst the last eight in Buenos Aires for the first time. The Chilean defeated Etcheverry in their last encounter which was in the final of the Chile Open last season. This should have him confident of advancing to the next round. Jarry made his clay court debut in the second round and defeated former Buenos Aires finalist Stan Wawrinka. Tomas Martin Etcheverry has equaled his best-ever finish here by advancing to this round. Having dominated this fixture with Jarry, the Argentine will be confident of sailing through to the last four. Etcheverry has defeated Jarry three times with all three victories coming on clay. The last time he won against Jarry, he ended up with a runner-up finish. This was in the Mexico City challenger two seasons ago and he will hope for at the very least the same trajectory. Etcheverry has won both his matches in this ATP 250 event without dropping a set. In the last round, he overpowered Daniel Elahi Galan by the loss of just three games. He is currently ranked 27th in the live ranking. Progressing to the semifinals will see him move up one place and into a career-high world ranking.
