Week seven in the Gallagher Premiership will see Newcastle Falcons taking on Exeter Chiefs on Sunday evening. The hosts are currently at the bottom of the league standings, while the visitors are third. After finishing in the bottom two places in the last two seasons, the Falcons look destined for another bottom-of-the-log finish this season. They have lost all six matches so far and have managed just three losing bonus points, leaving them seven points behind second-bottom Leicester. Their most recent defeat came last week against Derby rival Sale. The Sharks dominated that match from the first whistle and came away with a 40-22 victory, sending them to the top of the league standings. The Falcons have only beaten this opponent twice in the last ten encounters and are big outsiders in this one.
Meanwhile, after a poor campaign last season, Exeter have been much improved this term. However, they will need to improve their form on the road if they are to trouble the sides at the top of the league standings. Exeter have lost their last three away games in all competitions, but they will see this as the perfect opportunity to bring that run to an end. The visitors beat this opponent 24-5 in March this year and have only lost once in their last five visits to this venue. It will take a huge effort from the Falcons to stop the Chiefs in this match.
