Stuttgart travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday afternoon in the Bundesliga. Stuttgart were runner-up in the league last season while Monchengladbach retained their place in the top flight by a single point.

Mönchengladbach could hardly have had a worse start to their season. They went behind after 12 minutes to Leverkusen with the visitors well on top in terms of possession and chances. When the half time whistle went, they found themselves down 0-2.

They fought back well in the second half to give the defending league champions a scare. eventually losing 2-3 to a goal 11 minutes into stoppage time scored off a penalty rebound. They found Bochum easier, winning 2-0 on the road. Again, both of their goals came in the second half. 

This has been a fixture where Stuttgart have struggled in recent years. They have won just once in their last 10 visits to Borussia-Park, losing 1-3 in each of the last two seasons. It is at the back that they have struggled so far this season.

A loss on penalties in the German Super Cup to Leverkusen will have hurt. They played against 10 men for more than 50 minutes, conceding late on to lose the lead. A 1-3 loss away at Freiburg started their season before a 3-3 draw at home to Mainz. Their visitors gained a point in injury time.

A game away from home at a team that put two past the defending champions on opening day could be another tough ask for their back line. Stuttgart are the better team overall but their frailties at the back suggest that there will be goals here.
