Middlesbrough will be looking to make home advantage count when they welcome Millwall in the EFL Championship this Friday. These two teams are firmly in the promotion race as they sit just two points apart in the league standings with seven games to go. Read on to find our two predictions for the match below.
On 71 points, Boro have the slight advantage and arrive for this match in the second spot, nine points adrift of the league leaders Coventry. Meanwhile, the Lions have garnered 69 points and are placed fourth. Middlesbrough won the reverse meeting 3-0 on matchday two and, though they have been struggling of late, are favored by bookmakers to win again.
As it is, both sides will be looking to bounce back – Middlesbrough from three winless outings and Millwall from two. Playing at home will be one advantage for Middlesbrough; they will also be banking on a stronger head-to-head run. In the last four meetings between the two, Boro won three.

Middlesbrough - Millwall: Form Analysis
Middlesbrough are holding onto the automatic promotion spot, their destiny firmly in their hands. Though a daunting task, given their recent hiccups, Kim Hellberg’s men just have to win six more games to secure promotion. If they manage to do so, they will end an almost 10-year stay away from the Premier League.
Boro, who have 20 wins and 11 draws, have been blowing mostly cold since February. They have won just twice in their last eight games and have gone winless in three straight. Middlesbrough drew their second successive fixture after playing out a 0-0 draw with Blackburn right before the international break.
Middlesbrough are winless in four home matches, drawing three.
Millwall are also witnessing a dip in form. The visitors haven’t won in two outings. A 2-1 loss at home to struggling Blackburn ended a four-game winning run and was then followed by a 1-1 draw with Ipswich.
Before this latest slip-up, the Lions looked like they would be the ones to take full advantage of Boro’s struggles. Millwall, who are facing a second successive promotion rival, are tied on 69 points with third-placed Ipswich. They have won more games, 20, but have a significantly weaker goal difference.

Middlesbrough & Millwall Squad Analysis
Middlesbrough have a timely boost heading into this game as Sam Silvera could be back. It is two weeks before his projected recovery from a foot injury, but Boro will want to have all they can available. Alfie Jones is, however, still sidelined with an ankle injury, while Darragh Lenihan remains a long-term absentee.
While there will be a bigger focus on attack, the hosts seem safe in the goalkeeping department. Sol Brynn has kept 12 clean sheets and is in the running for the Golden Glove. He should play a key role here as Boro look to tighten their grip on second place.
There could be a new twist to the Golden Glove race in this match.
Millwall’s Max Crocombe is further back in the Golden Glove race but has been one of Millwall’s standout performers. With nine shutouts, we expect him to take center stage once again as the visitors look to leapfrog their hosts.
Millwall do not have any new injury concerns, with long-term absentees Danny McNamara, Lukas Jensen, and Daniel Kelly still sidelined.

Our Middlesbrough vs Millwall Prediction
Our prediction for Middlesbrough v Millwall is for less than 2.5 goals. This is a promotion six-pointer, and neither team can afford to lose here. We, therefore, expect a hard-fought fixture that should see a low-scoring outcome, given these two sides are among the best defensively.
No team has kept more clean sheets in the league than Millwall, while Boro have proved almost impenetrable recently at home. As this match is coming after the international break, we can expect a bit of jitteriness from each team.
Middlesbrough vs Millwall Alternative Predictions
Draw
For our second prediction, we are backing this match to end in a draw. Middlesbrough and Millwall have played a combined 20 draws in the league this season. As this fixture is a six-pointer in the race for promotion, a loss will be a disaster for either side.
