Metz have bounced back to Ligue 1 after a season away, and their return is marked by a home match against Strasbourg. The past one year has been eye-opening for Metz, who return to Ligue 1 looking to stay up longer. Strasbourg will not afford them a comfortable return, and we have a prediction below.
Metz, who lost their place via a playoff, have returned to the topflight the same way. They finished third in the league and faced Reims in the promotion playoff, winning 4-2 on aggregate.
Metz finished their preseason engagements with an 8-0 defeat to Hoffenheim. That, and the fact that they’ve struggled against Strasbourg previously, makes things even harder.
Strasbourg didn’t have a great run of results in preseason either. They won just one of their final four preseason games but will retain their place as favorites.
Le Racing were one of the in-form teams in the final stages of Ligue 1 last season. They should be able to carry the same momentum into this game, having won six times in their last 10 away matches in the league.
The visitors lost their two closing matches of last season, which meant they could only qualify for the Conference League. Two losses only in their final 14 matches of the season will build their basis for a strong start.
