Matteo Arnaldi gets to continue in Brisbane as a lucky loser and will match up with unseeded Daniel Altmaier in the first round. This is their second career meeting. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Matteo Arnaldi battled from a set down to defeat Altmaier in their only encounter at last year’s event in Washington. The result, which took two hours and 42 minutes to accomplish, will provide a strong basis for the Italian.

Arnaldi has already competed in Brisbane. He started in the qualifying rounds, winning his first match via a decider against Hugo Gaston. Arnaldi would withdraw in his follow-up match against Rinky Hijikata but finds himself ready for the main draw.

Starting the year ranked 61st, Arnaldi ended 2025 with a 23-26 record.

Daniel Altmaier plays his first match since ending his 2025 campaign at the start of November. Having not played a match since, he will hope to be fully ready when he takes on Arnaldi.

The German, whose only appearance in Brisbane was two years ago, ended the previous campaign with a 34-35 record. Competing largely in the tour, the 27-year-old never managed to play past the quarter-finals.

His highlight result, however, was a strong fourth-round finish at the French Open. Altmaier ended 2025 ranked 46th in the ATP.
