Marie Bouzkova and Veronika Kudermetova, both unseeded, will meet in the first round of the Wuhan Open. The Sunday match will mark the seventh career meeting between them. Let’s look at both players’ forms and a prediction.

Marie Bouzkova defeated Kudermetova in straight sets at the French Open back in May. The win allowed her to tie this series at 3-3 and now will seek to retake the advantage against the Russian.

Bouzkova debuted in Wuhan in 2019, the tournament's last edition before the Covid-19 scourge, and earned a second-round finish.

She returns to the tournament on a two-match winning run. Bouzkova was last on the court close to a month ago in Guadalajara where she won two matches. She has compiled a 21-18 record and will start the week ranked 42nd in the world.

Veronika Kudermetova is having a tough season. She has lost five more matches than the 17 she has won and this inconsistency has impacted negatively on her ranking.

The Russian started the year as the world number 16 but is currently ranked 66th in the live ranking. She dropped a massive 27 places last week after losing 465 points.

Despite this, she has improved her form lately and in her last six outings, won four times. The 27-year-old produced her best result of the season when she made the semi-finals in Seoul two weeks ago.

Unfortunately for her, she was unable to produce another solid run in Beijing and fell in the third round. Kudermetova has registered two of her three wins against Bouzkova on hard court surfaces.
