They will square off in the first round with the winner taking on either Madison Keys or Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals. Maria Sakkari has been in red-hot form over the last two weeks. The Greek number one battled to reach the final at Indian Wells and has carried that momentum to Miami. She has won both her rounds here without dropping a set and has improved her record to 12-5. Sakkari defeated Dayana Yastremska by the loss of nine games in the last round. She has now moved up one place to eighth in the live ranking. The 28-year-old was a semifinalist in Miami in 2021. That is also the same year she defeated Kalinskaya in Moscow in their only encounter to date.

Anna Kalinskaya is also having a superb campaign and has so far compiled an 18-6 record. The Russian has recorded a runner-up finish in Dubai as well as a run to the quarterfinals in Melbourne. Both results are her best at a Grand Slam as well as a WTA 1000 event. Kalinskaya has been in excellent form in this tournament and has also won her two rounds without dropping a set. She defeated former Miami finalist Jelena Ostapenko by the loss of just four games in the last round. The win allowed her to move to this round in Miami for the first round. It also bumped her up to a new career-high world ranking. Kalinskaya is now ranked 22nd in the live ranking after making a three-place jump.
