No seeded players remain in the bottom half of the draw in this Guadalajara Open Akron. Unseeded pair Camila Osorio and Kamilla Rakhimova face each other in the quarter-finals of this WTA 500 hard court tournament.
Next up for the winner will be a semi-final against either unseeded Martina Trevisan or qualifier Olivia Gadecki. Camila Osorio is up five places to 75th in the live rankings after two wins so far this week.
Round one saw the 22-year-old beat Hailey Baptiste for the loss of just five games. It was a much longer match in the second round as Osorio beat seventh seeded Veronika Kudermetova in three sets.
The first set was won by her on a tie-break but the seed won the second in the same manner. Osorio fought back to win the deciding set 7-5. That match lasted 201 minutes and may be hard to recover from.
Rakhimova is 89th in the latest rankings and is now three places ahead of her opponent in the live list. The first round saw her beat qualifier Aleksandra Kunic in straight sets with no games dropped in the first.
It was a much shorter match for her in the second round when compared to that of her opponent. Victoria Azarenka was seeded third but retired against Rakhimova in the second set. At that point, she'd lost the first set and was 3-0 down in the second.
Her two previous matches against Osorio were lost but both played on clay. Last week saw her win the WTA 125 tournament that was held in Guadalajara. We tip her to beat Osorio and reach the last four of this event.
