Third seed Katie Boulter will continue with her Nottingham Open title defence against fifth seed Magdalena Frech next. They will battle in the quarter-finals where the winner will play Emma Raducanu, Francesca Jones or Ashlyn Krueger next. Magdalena Frech has equalled her best-ever result at this event by advancing to this round. Last year’s quarter-finalist defeated Tatjana Maria in three sets in the second round. She dug her heels to come from a set down and has now improved her record to 21-15. Frech, who defeated Boulter the first time they met back in 2017, is now seeking her first tour semi-final appearance. The Pole is ranked 52nd in the WTA and has been in fine form in recent weeks. She has won five of her last seven.

Katie Boulter won the title here last season to record her first-ever career tour crown. She is now a two-time tour champion after winning the San Diego title earlier this season. Though she has struggled with her form in recent weeks, she is highly favoured to emerge winner here. Boulter, who has compiled a shaky 18-10 record, has lost half of her last 10 fixtures. Those defeats however came on clay and on grass, she is a far much better player. The Briton defeated the qualifier Rebecca Marino by the loss of seven games in the second round. Despite the win, she has dropped five places in the live ranking after losing 226 ranking points. She is now ranked 35th in the WTA. Boulter defeated Frech last year in Beijing in three sets to tie this series at 1-1.
