Tallon Griekspoor faces fellow unseeded player Luciano Darderi in round one of the Paris Masters. A tough task awaits the winner with the scheduled opponent being third seed Alexander Zverev. Here's our match prediction.
This is the second meeting between these two players and the other was also in Paris. That was this year when Griekspoor beat Darderi at Roland Garros. That was on clay and now they face each other again on an indoor hard court.
Griekspoor is at 39th in the live rankings (four ahead of Darderi) but has lost his last two matches. One was to Grigor Dimitrov and the Dutchman was then beaten in Basel by Dominic Stricker.
The loss to Dimitrov though was in the semi-finals in Stockholm and he'd reached round three in Shanghai before that. That's far better hard court form than has been shown by his opponent.
Luciano Darderi is far more comfortable on clay and has only won two out of 13 hard court matches this year. The most recent being a win over the now-retired Dominic Thiem in Vienna last week.
He couldn't build on that and next lost to eventual champion Jack Draper in straight sets. We go for Tallon Griekspoor to win this match and do so in straight sets.
